The tales in this fine book come from the famous Buffalo Head ranch in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies. With the mountains as a backdrop, this dude ranch entertained visitors from around the world. R.M. Patterson bought it from its founder, a wild Italian named George Pocaterra, and explored the steep valleys and high mountain passes. The tales end with a fantastic story of meeting a growling grizzly while crossing the Continental Divide in an October snowstorm.

Born in 1898, R.M. Patterson spent most of his life pursuing adventure in the Canadian West. He is one of Canada's first outdoor-adventure writers – and, with his five books, one of the most prolific.
