The Hudson's Bay Boy: John Seagrave was born in Toronto, Ontario, but escaped to Rupert's Land for the life of a “Hudson's Bay Boy.” It was the 1970's when he joined the Company of Adventurers as a modern-day fur trader and , like many other Bay Boys who went to work for Canada's founding business, he was transferred from pillar to post across Canada's North.

Seagrave worked for twenty years at Hudson's Bay Company outposts and experienced extraordinary adventures along the way. After retiring from the HBC to Yellowknife, he decided to record the tales of his northern experiences: what he witnessed as the fur trade collapsed, as electricity and television found their way into remote communities, and as transportation underwent a revolution. Seagrave describes this short period of intense change with humour, compassion, and insight.
