One goal of the publishing team was to put together the most comprehensive collection of bird photographs possible to help all local and visiting birders identify the vast number of species accessible for viewing in southwestern B.C. including all the coastal islands running north as far as Bella Coola at about 52 degrees latitude.

To that end, the collection of 370 high-resolution images represents the finest guidebook collection of photographs ever assembled in western North America . Among the contributors are world-renowned nature photographers Nora and Rick Bowers, Robert Royse and Brian Small, and hawk specialist Brian Wheeler. Respected Pacific Northwest birders like Tom Eckert, Dr. Lee Barnes, Brian Bell, Dick McNeely and Jim Pruske, along with Pat and Ruth Sullivan, have been avid contributors. Serious photographers like Bart Rulon of Whidbey Island and Ralph Hocken of Vancouver Island have provided stunning work. Dick Cannings’ good friend Hank Tseng, one of B.C.’s most dedicated bird photographers, has provided over two dozen of his best shots collected over the years while another Vancouver Islander, Michael Shepard, provided another dozen. In all, a total of 57 camera buffs have provided thousands of options from which the final selection was made.
