Harry Dresden’s adventures were directly inspired by by the Anita Blake
series, according to author Jim Butcher. I can see that. They have the same
breakneck speed quality and intensity, though they are also quite different.
For one thing, Harry operates in our world, and does his level best to see that
the normal people in his life don’t peek behind the curtains and see the
occult machinery.
"The building was on fire, and it wasn't my fault,” is how book six
begins, and that’s the least of Harry’s problems. He’s going
to discover that his mother wasn’t always a saint, find out he has relatives
he didn’t know about, and discover that trying to protect a producer’s
friends and workers from a nasty spellcasting amateur has put him directly in
the line of fire.
