Sally Dog Little: Undercover Agent

Reviewed: February 9, 2005
By: Bill Richardson / illustrations by Celine Malepart
Publisher: Annick Presse
24 pages, $7.95

Sally Dog Little knows her job within the structure of the Little family. She’s a support dog for everything the family does, helping Twinkle sleep at night, bringing Pappa Little his slippers, and assisting Mama Little while she plants petunias.

Perhaps it was listening to to Twinkle think out loud about what she would do when she grew up that made Sally Dog think she needed to do something unique. Twinkle had all sorts of idea, but the one that stuck in Sally Dog’s mind was probably not the best choice: undercover agent.

It’s takes a day of sneaking around under a blanket (Sally Dog is quite literal minded) for her to realize that this isn’t really a career for her. After all, it was only by accident that she manages to save the petunias from being destroyed, and that would have been a disaster.

Richardson and Malepart tell this tale with gusto. It’s a worthy sequel to the original book.
