So if you haven't been to see the play at the Guild Hall, what's holding you back - other than the small size of the theatre itself? The Whitehorse local of the Reduced Shakespeare Co. has been doing a great job with this script. I think you really have to love and appreciate the Bard to make this much fun of him. You certainly have to know something about the plays to get the most out of the experience.

That said, there are lots of things in the script, especially in the footnotes to the script, that didn't make it to the stage, and are pretty funny in themselves. In addition, there are three very amusing appendices to the script as well as an introduction and authors' notes which, while we have to admit (in the spirit of the play) are only there to pad out what would otherwise have been a fairly thin book for the cover price, are nevertheless good reading.

Besides all that, I'm grateful to the players at the Guild for putting on the show. The publisher sent me this book to review ten years ago (it is still available - I checked at amazon.ca before starting this review) and I never could figure out a good way to sneak it into my column.
