In April 1999, the Inuit dream of a self-governing territory in the eastern Arctic – Nunavut (Our Land) – became a reality. In celebration of this historic even comes a new edition of Inuit Journey. Edith Iglauer's firsthand account of another major turning point in Inuit history: the establishment in the early 1960's of member-owned, member-run Inuit co-operatives.

This book is a straightforward, thoughtful and thoroughly gripping read, and is a significant part of the record of the Inuit journey toward independence. Added to this is Iglauer's moving account of her journey in 1994 to revisit the Inuit community, now known as Kangiqsualujjuaq, which thirty-three years before was the scene of the founding co-operative. This new edition, with its new preface and epilogue, also contains more than 20 previously unpublished photographs.
