Subtitled “An Illustrated History of Gardening in Skagway, Alaska” this beautiful little book fulfils the promise of those words quite nicely. The selection of photographs shows a wide range of gardens and landscaping from gold rush times to the present, demonstrating a continuing interest in growing things over the decades.  From the text, it would appear that there has been an ebb and flow of interest over the years,. but people do seem to be committed to helping the town maintain its right to call itself the Garden City of Alaska.
