Trapline Outlaw Simon Peter Gunanoot: Trapline Outlaw tells the true story of Simon Peter Gunanoot, a Gitksan trapper, rancher and merchant in Hazelton, B.C. Gunanoot was a complex man – a Native who prospered in the white community. In 1906 after Gunanoot was accused of murdering two men in cold blood, he fled with his family into the wilderness of northern B.C. Where he eluded capture for thirteen years. During his years in exile, Gunanoot's image in the public eye changed from common criminal to fold hero. When Gunanoot finally surrendered to Mounted Police in 1919, he was tried, acquitted and returned to his life as a successful trapper and businessman.
