About Gus

Gus Karpes has lived in the Yukon for more than 35 years. For most of those, he and his wife and partner, Irene Pugh, roamed the Yukon waterways and wilderness in their capacity as river guides, tour operators, and general goodwill ambassadors for the Yukon.

Gus is the author of a number of historical river guidebooks, many of which have been translated and published in Germanic Europe.

From their rustic home on Lake Laberge, Gus continues to write stories of his experiences of life on the lake and in the Yukon wilds. Gus is a member of the Outdoor Writers of Canada (OWC) and the Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA).
